Aerial Class Level Descriptions
Intro to Silks and Hammock
If you have never tried aerial before, this class is for you! Students will do conditioning drills for aerial and learn basic aerial techniques on both silks and hammock. The focus of this class will be on proper form, safety, and of course fun! It is recommended that students brand new to aerial take this class at least five times prior to beginning Level 1 classes. Your instructor will let you know if you are ready to move on to the next level (Level 1).
Beginner Lyra/Level 1
This is the introductory/beginner level. Whether you are just starting your lyra journey or still need to work on your basic techniques, this class will set you up in order for you safely move on to the next level. If you are unsure if you can move on, please ask your instructor.
Most skills will be taught under the bar as well as inside the hoop.
Prerequisites to move onto Intermediate Lyra
- You are able to mount the hoop successfully on your own executing the following: trapeze mount, straddle mount and side mount.
-you can hang from the top of the hoop and be able to pull yourself successfully back into the hoop
Intermediate Lyra/Level 2
See prerequisites for this class, above.
In intermediate Lyra, you will learn sequences that will utilize the bottom, inside and top bar. In this level you will learn to perfect, elbow hangs, single arm hangs, fast spinning, meathooks, front and back balances, skin the cats , pull over mounts and trapeze mount to the top bar. You will be challenged with a sequence while utilizing a spin
Beginner Silks/Level 1
This is the introductory/beginner level for silks. Whether you are just starting your silks journey or still need to work on your basic techniques, this class will set you up in order for you to safely move on to the next level. If you are unsure if you can move on, please ask your instructor.
In this level you will build up the muscle endurance and strength to execute foot wraps in the air in order to start into sequencing. You will learn the correct technique for inverting and feeling comfortable holding weight into your hands for an extended period.
Prerequisites to move on to Intermediate Silks
- Be able to climb to the top of the silks and descend cleanly executing both a Step Climb and a Russian Climb.
- Figure eight foot locks in the air, aerial dance locks in the air
- hip key from the floor
- unsupported inversion from the floor
Intermediate Silks - Level 2

In intermediate silks, you will be learning more sequencing in the air. Combinations will be taught and a small routine will be created. In this level you will learn to perfect a cross back straddle, inversion climbs, hip keys in the air, s- wraps and rotations.
Hammock Level 1 and 2
Beginner/Intermediate - Level 1 and 2
You will learn to successfully mount a low and high hammock unassisted. You will learn to invert into the hammock and invert while standing in the hammock. Sequences will be taught at no matter the skill level, utilizing a spin.
