Aerial Class Levels and Descriptions
ADULTS
Intro to Silks and Hammock
First time trying aerial? Looking to brush up on the basics? This class is for you! This class will include basic conditioning drills for correct aerial techniques on both silks and hammock. The focus of this class will be on proper form, safety, and of course fun! It is recommended that students brand new to aerial take this class at least five times prior to beginning Level 1 classes.
Please Note: If you are able to climb to the top (Basic and Russian), tie foot locks in the air (Figure 8 and Aerial Dance Locks), hip key from the floor, and hold an invert unassisted from the floor, you will be required to move up. **This level will NOT go beyond an intro level. Your instructor will let you know if you are ready to move on.
Intro/ Beginner Lyra (Aerial Hoop)
This is the introductory/beginner level. In this class will string together some basic movements on the Lyra. Whether you are just starting your Lyra journey or still need to work on your basic techniques, this class will set you up in order for you safely move up to a more advanced level. If you are unsure if you can move on, please ask your instructor.
Most skills will be taught under the bar as well as inside the hoop.
Prerequisites to move onto Intermediate Lyra
- You are able to mount the hoop successfully on your own executing the following: trapeze mount, straddle mount and side mount.
-you can hang from the top of the hoop and be able to pull yourself successfully back into the hoop
Intermediate Lyra/Level 2
In intermediate Lyra, you will learn sequences that will utilize the bottom, inside and top bar. In this level you will learn to perfect, elbow hangs, single arm hangs, fast spinning, meat hooks, front and back balances, skin the cats , pull over mounts and trapeze mount to the top bar. You will be challenged with a sequence while utilizing a spin
Level 1 Silks
If you are able to comfortably climb to the top of the silk, tie foot locks in the air and invert unassisted, then this is the class for you!
In this level you will build up the muscle endurance and strength to execute small sequences in the air. You will be conditioned to feel comfortable holding weight into your hands for an extended period of time.
Prerequisites to move on to Intermediate Silks
-If you are able to string together three basic sequences in the air
- Can cleanly execute figure 8 foot locks AND aerial dance locks in the air
- Can do at least two inversion climbs in a row
- Can hip key in the air
Intermediate Silks - Level 2
Please see prerequisites, above.
In intermediate silks, you will be learning more advanced sequencing in the air. You will work on cleaning up your S-wraps to windmills in order to learn more advanced drops and rotations.
Hammock Level 1
You will learn to successfully mount a low and high hammock unassisted. You will learn to invert into the hammock and invert while standing in the hammock. You will be taught a basic sequence.

Hammock Level 1 + 2
You will execute a higher level of conditioning and will learn more advanced sequencing in the air. You must feel comfortable inverting from standing inside the hammock.
Beginner Bellydance
Areas covered include basic isolations, choreography drills, basic footwork and arm positions, and an introduction to veil technique. All levels of dancers are encouraged to attend the beginner level class, as continued practice of the basics of bellydance is always recommended!
Intermediate/Advanced Bellydance
Emphasis on choreography and technique. More complex choreography will be taught, as well as more complex veil technique. Also taught will be an introduction to zills (finger cymbals) and floorwork. While it is not necessary to master the basics to attend this class it is strongly recommended that you are comfortable with the basic isolations taught in the beginner and open level classes and with basic choreography before taking the intermediate class.
Kids
Aerial/Acro Classes
Kids will be put in aerial/acro classes according to their age/ ability. If your child has never done aerial before, they will be put into Level 1 to learn the proper technique in order to move up. Kids classes are on a membership only basis. You must sign up monthly to guarantee a spot in class. We limit the class size in order to give everyone special attention.
